Investigando jerônimos : a representação do tradutor como personagem em narrativas contemporâneas

Abstract

O objetivo desta tese é traçar um panorama da representação do tradutor como personagem em narrativas contemporâneas, tendo por base os Estudos de Tradução e a Teoria Literária. O tradutor atua como mediador em diversos campos do conhecimento e em todas as épocas, contudo, poucas parecem ser as reflexões acerca da representação do tradutor como personagem e que implicações ela pode ter sobre a percepção que ele tem de si mesmo e o valor que é dado à profissão em termos sociais. Neste sentido, por meio dos textos literários, discutimos acerca da identidade híbrida ou líquida do tradutor, seu poder simbólico e a maneira como ele é visto na sociedade. O presente estudo aborda narrativas que tratam desde questões relativas às considerações subjetivas do tradutor até a forma como ele exerce seu papel e se torna visível. _________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is to provide an outlook at the representation of translators as fictional characters in contemporary narratives, based on Translation Studies discussions and on Literary Theory. The translator has always been a mediator in different fields of knowledge through time, however there are few studies about the way he/she is represented as a fictional character and what this representation can bring in terms of theoretical discussion about the profession. It is important to observe if it affects the way translators see themselves and how their image and professional value are perceived in society. We can discuss these topics through literary texts, paying attention to translator‘s hybrid or liquid identity, his/her symbolic power and visibility. This research presents analysis of narratives that show translators thinking about their personal issues and also those that bring about questions on the profession and how it is seen in social terms.
