“Eu era o terceiro homem” : um estudo de gênero com mulheres policiais civis e militares

Abstract

Este trabalho teve como objetivo investigar como as mulheres se inserem em profissões policiais e como negociam suas identidades, considerando que têm que corresponder às demandas masculinas desse contexto. Foi utilizado o referencial teórico de gênero, que concebe o caráter socialmente construído das diferenças e das desigualdades entre homens e mulheres. Vinte entrevistas foram realizadas com mulheres de diferentes cargos da Polícia Civil e da Polícia Militar de Goiânia-GO. Observou-se que o processo de integração das mulheres nessas instituições não se dá livre de conflitos, visto que têm que corresponder ao mesmo tempo à demanda de agirem conforme esperado para o seu sexo e conforme esperado para um policial homem. Assim, vivenciam resistências e discriminações em sua carreira. Notou-se, contudo, que no caso das polícias civis as dificuldades são minimizadas pelo tipo de trabalho realizado, o investigativo, que na percepção das participantes é mais fácil para as mulheres, por se associar a características tidas como femininas, possibilitando maior autonomia e reconhecimento para essas policiais. _________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT

This study aimed to investigate how women enter in professions such as police and negotiate their identities, considering that they have to attend masculine demands in that context. The gender theory was used, which emphasizes the socially constructed nature of the differences and inequalities between men and women. Twenty interviews were conducted with women from Civil Police and Military Police from Goiânia-GO. Policewomen from different hierarchy levels of posts were included in the study. The results indicated that the integration‟s women process in these institutions is not free from conflict, because they have to act at the same time as expected for your sex and as expected for a police man. Thus, they experience resistance and discrimination in their career. However, in the case of women from Civil Police the difficulties are minimized by the type of work performed, which is associated to female stereotypes, allowing greater autonomy and recognition for these officers.
