Abstract

Este artigo examina a atuação de funcionários régios luso-brasileiros na capitania da Bahia, no contexto do movimento reformista português do final do século XVIII . Destaca a identificação desses funcionários com a política da Coroa, a s redes clientelares nas quais se inseriam, os conflitos que enfrentavam com a s populações locais, os canais e processos de encaminhamento das insatis-fações dos vassalos da América e a forma como o Antigo Regime administrava os conflitos. ______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT

This article examines the performance of Portuguese-Brazilian functionaries of the Crown in the Chieftainship of Bahia m the context of the reform is to movement existingin Portugal by the end of the 18 century. It analyses how the functionaries identified themselves with the policies of the Crown, the clientele networks in which they participated, their conflicts with the local population, the alternatives available to vassals in America to channel their dissatisfactions to the Metropohs and the ways in which the Ancient Regime used to deal with grievances and conflicts.
