Resumen : Water has been considered an important vehicle for disseminating human toxoplasmosis in outbreaks(1,2) and in endemic settings in Brazil (3). We investigated a large toxoplasmosis outbreak in which the exposure to known sources of Toxoplasma gondii infection was assessed. We found that unfiltered, municipally treated water was the epidemiologically implicated source of infection for this outbreak. Isolation, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) detection, and genotyping of T. gondii from the implicated water source were demonstrated.
