As estações da modernidade : um repensar sobre a arquitetura ferroviária em Minas Gerais (1870-1930)

Abstract

O presente trabalho é fruto das motivações e inquietações pessoais acerca da História da Arquitetura Brasileira. Procurou ressaltar a relação entre o ecletismo e a implantação da modernidade no Brasil no século XIX e o início do século XX. Para essa modernidade se transformar em tradição em terras brasileiras foi necessário abordar o principal produto econômico naquele momento que foi o café. O estudo escolheu como recorte geográico a região sudeste, em particular a Zona da Mata Mineira. Utilizando um arcabouço teórico multidisciplinar, diferentes áreas do conhecimento foram estudadas como: Arquitetura, História, Literatura, Economia, Artes e Transportes. Considerando o progresso material promovido pelo café e articulando sua ligação direta com a Revolução Industrial Européia, a arquitetura das estações ferroviárias tornou-se o principal argumento para o desenvolvimento desta dissertação. ______________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT

This work is the result of personal motivations and concerns regarding the History of Brazilian Architecture before Modernism. It tries to highlight the relation between eclecticism and the implantation of modernity in Brazil in the 19th century and in the beginning of the 20th century. It was necessary to approach the main economic product in that period, i. e., the cofee. his work is geographically limited within the Brazilian Southeastern region, especially on Minas Gerais Southeastern portion called Zona da Mata. Starting from a multidisciplinary point of view, diferent realms of knowledge were approached, such as Architecture, History, Literature, Economics, Arts and Transportation. Bearing in mind the material progress brought by cofee and articulating its direct relation with the European Industrial Revolution, the architecture of railroad stations became the main argument to the development of this work.
